Bus Transfer

Coach transfer will be provided from the event HQ in Longford Town to the starting point ( Abbeyshrule 36km event; 27km; Corlea 18km event)

Refreshments

Food stops and toilet facilities will be provided at three points along the route.

Walkers will receive a commemorative Royal Canal Camino medal and t-shirt.

Fully Marshalled

Road crossings will be marshalled and walk leaders will be interspersed along the route.

The Route

The Royal Canal Camino route is mostly off road along the Royal Canal Greenway trail. It has a flat profile with a nice under foot surface.

The starting point will be the picturesque village of Abbeyshrule where in 1150, one of Ireland’s first Cistercian abbeys was established in the valley of the River Inny Walkers will finish at Longford Athletics Club Indoor Athletics Training Centre in St. Mel’s College and in the shadow of St Mel’s Cathedral in Longford Town, Longford’s landmark building and one of the finest Catholic churches in Ireland.

Keeping Children Fit & Healthy

The Royal Canal Camino is organised by Longford Athletics Club, a voluntary club. All funds raised will go towards the completion the clubs new Indoor Training Centre. This community facility will be a great benefit the children that participate in Longford Athletics Club activities each year. It will also provide a much-needed resource to many local community and sporting groups.
